I'm guessing that's not going to be Newey's final version of the halo

I am assuming that nobody will reveal the fairings they will be running yet and they will all evolve through the year to try getting the right airflow to the back of the car.

There are some better pictures of the Red Bull now and the sidepods actually look quite different to the other cars shown so far. It was nice to see images of a car running again too, even in such lousy weather.

The McLaren may be the worst looking car ever, thanks to that hideous livery.

Nice to see McLaren bought the right colour paint this year.

Who is looking forward to the whining about halos reaching peak tedium? It was interesting that the new generation of Formula E car actually made a halo look good, so maybe some of the teams will achieve something similar. I will be intrigued to see if Ferrari retain their sidepod design this season and also if it is a concept that gets adopted elsewhere.
With Pitboard being off-line for so long did we miss the chance for a good whinge about the halo last season? ;)

As for the Halo:

Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff said last month that he would take a chainsaw to the halo if he could. (BBC f1)
But Todt, the president of motorsport's governing body the FIA, said it had been introduced to save lives and at the request of drivers' body the GPDA.

"I am amazed to hear some people say: 'OK, motor racing is dangerous, if it happens, it happens,'" Todt said.

"Can you imagine how we would all feel if something happened and if we would have had the halo it would not have happened?"

Have to say I agree with Todt.

As for the Halo:

Is that the beachwear brand that McLaren actually is carrying sponsorship for on the halo itself this weekend? I don't mind the halo at all, but they do look like flip-flops so it's probably some very good value PR for the sponsor - if anyone recalls their name afterwards at least.

There have been comments made about drivers being harder to recognise with the halo in the way, including Verstappen saying that people won't be able to identify his helmet design now. I doubt I could recognise an unbranded version of his lid anyway, or many of the other drivers for that matter. Often I find it's the sponsor logos that help me identify the driver these days. There was a nice suggestion somewhere about differentiating the halos to reflect helmet designs. So far, I think the cars where the halo is in a different colour to the surrounding bodywork generally look better than the ones that try blending it in to the rest of the livery so using them like the roll-hoop camera colours could work well.
